Drains do not block at a convenient time. They block on a Sunday afternoon with a house full of people, which is exactly why we work seven days rather than Monday to Friday.
We carry the jetter and the camera on the van, so a weekend call is a job that gets finished rather than a job that gets assessed and booked in for Tuesday.
Call straight away if
- Sewage is coming up through a shower, floor waste or the overflow relief gully outside
- Every fixture in the property has stopped draining at once
- Your only toilet will not clear
- Water is backing up toward the house during heavy rain
- A commercial kitchen or a tenanted property cannot trade or be lived in
- You can smell sewage inside the building
What to do before we get there
Stop using water. Every flush, shower and washing-machine cycle adds to what has nowhere to go.
If sewage is surfacing outside at the overflow relief gully, leave it. That grate is designed to pop and release outside so the overflow does not happen inside the house. Blocking it makes things worse.
Do not tip drain chemicals down it. If the line is already full they sit there, and someone has to work in that later.
Keep children and pets away from any surfaced sewage until it has been cleared and the area hosed down.
